THE GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS PROGRAM
DEADLINE: January 14, 2015
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program selects 1,000 talented students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The 2015 GMS Online Application is open until the Wednesday, January 14, 2015 11:59 pm EST deadline.Who’s Eligible?
Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they meet all of the following criteria:
- Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian & Pacific Islander American** or Hispanic American
- Are a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States
- Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a GED
- Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited*** college or university (with the exception of students concurrently pursuing a high school diploma) in the fall of 2015 as a full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student. First-time college enrollees can also be GED recipients.
- Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities
- Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria
- Have completed and submitted all three required forms: the student's application (Nominee Personal Information Form), an evaluation of the student's academic record (Nominator Form) and an evaluation of the student's community service and leadership activities (Recommender Form) by the deadline

UVA Scholarships
University Achievement Award
· Award: Full tuition for four years at U. Va.
· Recipients: This award goes to in-state students who have developed exceptional academic merit, leadership, and citizenship. Applicants must satisfy at least two of the following requirements:
1. Have a history of overcoming disadvantage
2. Be a first generation college student
3. Be a member of an underrepresented minority or ethnic group
4. Be a member of a low income family
5. Reside in a rural or inner-city location
6. Have been raised in a single parent household
· How to apply for the award: All in-state applicants are automatically considered. The most competitive applicants will demonstrate through Part II of our application that they have special talents, unique personal characteristics, and/or pressing needs that will assist us with our objective to recruit and retain a diverse student body.
Holland Blackburn Scholarship
· Award: Each scholarship is renewable for four years and currently pays $20,000 per year for out-of-state students.
· How to apply for this award: All African American students applying to the University are automatically considered.
Walter N. Ridley Scholarship Fund
· Award: Scholarships vary in amount, but a typical award is $10,000 per year for four years. See the link above for more information.
· How to apply for this award: All African American students applying to the University are automatically considered. There is no separate application, but candidates may be asked to participate in a selection process. Finalists will be directly contacted by the Ridley Foundation with more information.
Jefferson Scholarships
· Award: The Jefferson Scholarship covers tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, and personal expenses for four years. Currently the award is $24,104 per year for Virginians and $49,098 per year for out of state students.
· How to apply for this award: A student must be nominated by his or her high school in order to apply. Check with the Jefferson Scholars Program to find out if your high school is eligible to submit a nomination. A limited number will also be nominated from the general applicant pool.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)
Award: HSF scholarship award amounts range from $1,000-$15,000. The average award amount is $2,500 for students attending four year institutions.
How to apply for this award: HSF allows students to apply for several scholarships using one centralized application. Please visit the website above for the most up-to-date information about current application requirements and deadlines.
"Tim" Timmons Scholarshiip for 2015
DEADLINE: April 15, 2015
Award: $5,000
Requirements: Minimum GPA of 3.0, two letters of recommendation, transcript, SAT scores and an essay on "How You Plan to Use Your Education".
